Das Stue - Luxury hotel - History Old & New

History Old & New

FROM EMBASSY TO BOUTIQUE HOTEL: AN ICON THROUGH THE AGES

Commissioned by the Danish Embassy, the building on Drakestraße was completed during World War II.
Built in the monumental Neoclassical style according to plans by architect Emil Schaudt, who also designed the
KaDeWe, it initially served for a short time as the residence and official headquarters of the Danish ambassadors.
After the Scandinavian countries opened a joint embassy in Berlin, the building changed hands
several times, including to Deutsche Telekom.

In 2009, the conversion into a luxury hotel finally began. Under the direction of designer Patricia Urquiola,
the building was carefully transformed, the interior curated, and a modern new wing added on the side
facing the zoo. Das Stue has been welcoming guests since 2012. The combination of Spanish-inspired design
and monumental architecture gives the hotel a distinctive atmosphere that captivates guests from
the very first moment.
